ADSL router used as AP?

Hi All.
I have 2 identical D-link ADSL wifi routers (telkom). I would like to use one as an AP to connect my wired (LAN) XBOX and dvd player to my wireless Internet. Basically converting my wired stuff to wireless without needing to have a cable between the 2 routers. Thus my 2 ADSL routers must connect wirelessly "AP 2 ADSL".
I have played around and cannot get this working. All the info on the web I can find says you need to connect the 2 routers with a cable. Then this is basically a range extender.
Any suggestions?

doubt the standard D-link Router OS can do what you want - you would probably have to flash one of the, with an OS (like DD-WRT if compatible with your router) to do this.
 
You can try to put the wireless settings as "Bridge Mode" in which case the wireless will only talk to the other router (the wireless signal will be "invisible" and you cannot connect any other device -the AP mode will be disabled-). If DHCP have to be active only in one of the routers (the primary). secondary router ethernet ports can be used for your wired devices.

Some routers can do Bridge Mode and AP mode at the same time, some others not.

The other option will be to run just ONE cable to the secondary router, setup the AP and use the rest of the ports to connect your wired devices.

I have not yet checked this out yet. One would think that a router will be able to do this as an AP is a "dumb" device.
Guess then the flash option to try. :)

Have tried this. Seems there is no AP option on these routers. Bridge mode it does have and have done the DHCP setup etc.
The whole idea is to not have any cables between the routers. :)
 
Unfortunately although the hardware is physically capable of this the default firmware won't allow these functions.
