I just put in an adsl line and would like to know what’s the best router to go for at the moment, im sorry if this has been discussed before but your help will be greatly be appreciated

Yes, the Netgear DG834G is certainly the best, but be sure to check if you get the newer version that is out (version 3) I have version 2 and a friend has version 1. Very different and a very cool router

Billion 5102(S) looks like a nice budget router. Do you need wireless?

Knew I should have asked this when I was looking for a router. Got a Billion and I'm returning it! :(

Why ???.
They are not shabby.

Actually I have yet to encounter a horrid and non working ADSL router as most of them are made by the same few nameless companies in Taiwan/China and Netgear and Linksys and others just slap their badges on them :).

When Getting a DSL router/modem. Its better to stick to well known brands.
D-link, Netgear, Linksys are the big one's..

Billion must be one of the biggest ADSL hardware brands in SA and their support is great. I have a 7202GR2 and it rocks!

I don’t want to sound one sided (due to my signature) but I suggest Billion. Like Kale said they have great support and they are even on the MyADSL forums.

In my opinion either go for Netgear or Billion.

I would recommend the linksys (Cisco home division) WAG200G. It is a very stable platform with all the bells and whistles you will ever need. I previously had the WAG54G but was sometimes unreliable. I have had the 200 now for 4 months and have had not 1 single problem. They retail for around a grand.

Rather try to keep it Telkom if u have a limited amount of experience. not many people here can set up a linksys (gag) get the billion 5102G. it functions, and u dont have to explain to a newbie consultant how the interface looks and him replying erm....... can you give me a moment please

I would go for Billion, never had a problem, easy firmware upgradably, plenty support online and through telkom as its one of their supplied routers. Becarefull tho of the 5102g as it can be unstable, especially when updating the firmware. And another bonus about using telkoms routers is that it is easily swappably at any telkom branch.

A lot of positive things have been said in favour of the Billion products, and they are very good with support, and perhaps I have been plain unlucky... BUT I been using a Billion 7202 for about 2 - 3 weeks now and so far is been a constant hassle, and while the guys at Billion are trying to help, I seem unable to get away from the constant problems, and as soon one goes away it seems another tags in ...
As I said perhaps I am the exception.

Just got the Netgear DG834G tonight and setup really couldn't have been easier, plus it comes with all manner of adapters (incl. line filter) and cables so you're not gonna need to buy anything extra.

Oh, and it's just damn sexy sitting there in all it's white and glossy glory. But why oh why do they provide a bright yellow network cable -- I'll not understand.

Billion 7402G and it rocks. Connection speed faster that the Marconi I had (Telkom Wireless Router). Has all extras including hard firewall etc. Probably overkill for home use.

Where in CT did you buy the router and what was the price? Do you have the 54Mbps or the 108Mbps router? I ordered ADSL today and I'll probably be buying the NetGear DG834G soon.
