I need to purchase a ADSL modem/router. Now I already have a broadband router in a SMC. I'm currently using it with my Iburst, but I'm getting ADSL, soon as Telkom installs line etc, (go Telkom), so once thats in, I need to get me a modem.

Any suggestions? I was thing of the D-Link DSL2500U. Its a small modem with one RJ45 port to take to the SMC. Any other ideas?

I'm using two modems, a Netgear DG834 v3, and a Siemens Gigaset 762SX (I've used Telkom Mega100WR, VOX phone, and Netgear DG834GT), and these two modems are awesome - certainly better than any other I've tried, in terms of latency and sync speed under bad line conditions

Yep I would recommend the DSL2500U, am using the TP-Link TD8840 which idential to the D-Link DSL2540U (4 Eth) at the price of a DSL2500U (1 Eth). They all use the exact same chipset, Broadcom BCM 63XX, renound for its handling of long, poor quality lines.

BTW: Howzit fragtion ^

Why not pay a bit more and get the D-link DSL2540U. Basically the same as the DSL2500U only with 4 LAN ports and a few other features.

I think cos he's already got a SMC broadband router, and is only likely to use one port (to connect to the SMC).

On that note, from my experience the D-Links & TP-Link mentioned above are absolutely crap routers, but if left in bridging mode, they're excellent modems. Personally use a Mikrotik RB750G as my actual router.

The d-links is very sensitive to lighting, so if he loses the 1 on the 2500U it is a new modem. On the 2540U he can only switch to the next port. But on the end of the day he has to make the choice.

My 2c.
