I've ordered ADSL Self Install on Tuesday this week. Yesterday I get a call from them, saying that my Self Install is ready and I can plug in my filter & modem at any time and it'll work. Initially, I'm thrilled at the speed of service this time around. After saying thank you and jumping of joy :D I realize "but hold on, they didn't give me my DSL Username and Password" - as I got the R199 package that gives you 1 Gig etc.

So I call back, and they say "no, you have to call 0800 500 200 to get that". Ok, fine, so I call them - but waited for 30 minutes in the queue before I decided screw it, I've got work to do. Last night when I got home, I tried to log on using a pre-paid account that I've set up for myself from Webafrica - but I can't connect. Before long I realise (and this is where I might be wrong) that I don't have a DSL line yet, 'cause my Netgear router's "i" icon doesn't even come on when I reboot the router.

And this is the fun part - as I type this, I'm currently at 25 minutes in the queue to the 0800 375 375 number - which is the 24 hour support line, so it should be active all the time with people waiting for calls.

Why is it always a bloody mission to get something done with Telkom????????????? If there's any Telkom staff reading this (which I doubt) - you guys were great in the speed at which you notified me that my line was ready - but still there's problems - and now I start to wait in call qeues... why? Why!?!?!

The problem is not getting it activated, the problem is actually getting my router to connect to the DSL. Even if I use the details from Telkom ISP that they gave me yesterday.

Thanks, I tried the "guest" thing but still can't get in. Today I tried calling 0800375375 and ended up putting the phone down after holding for 90 minutes!!! Yes, 1 hour, and 30 minutes!

I'm honestly thinking of just calling their fraud department and reporting fraud - by telkom. Just so that I can get somebody to wake the [fill in some bad word] up!

If your line is not active, and you havent verified it is active, then the problem might not be with your router.

I suggest trying telkom again today, and confirm from their side that they have completed the installation. You must to the verification too.

Okay, one thing to also check out is if you have connected your filter properly.

The line to your modem should not go through the filters. Only your phone/fax etc should go through the filters. This may be your problem, check it out.
