ADSL Self Installationt Verification Problem-- Please help

Hi,

I ordered an ADSL account and the telkom operator called me to ask if I would like to perform the self install option, which will speed things up, and instead of having to pay R404 for a telkom technician to come out to my site. N e way, on thursday morning I received a call from telkom to say that I can go ahead with the self installation. So I followed the instruction on the page and when I get to the part where i must verify the adsl connection, then this is where the trouble starts.
1. Telkom says connect to www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl- which i get to fine.
2. Then i must enter my order number and telphone number and click verify
3. The first time i did it, it said that verification failed
4. Then I re-entered the information and it says that the line has been verified already
5. I phone the oh-so-helpfull tech support and the idoit didn't even know about the self installation problem.

Any way I called them again and spoke to some different and he couldn't help me either. He finally went to go and ask someone in the other building and they came to the conclusion that it must be something worng at the exchange.

Now the reason I am asking this is 2 fold
1- I get an IP address for the dsl connection- so it is communicating somehow
2- I have a Dlink-300t and the status light keeps flashing, can it be that there is something wrong with the modem, I checked the manual and all it says there that if something is wrong then reboot the modem, which obviously didn't work.

Has n e 1 experienced these problems, before i go out and buy another modem.

i am about to do the "do-it-yourself-kit" thing aswell and would also like to know what the problems are associated with this way of doing things. Also how long did you wait for the line test?
 
You do the line test yourself, did u get the instructions from the telkom office? Cause thats all u need to do apparantly.
 
When i say about to do it, i mean within the week. Just want to know if there is anything i should watch out for. How long did it take you ir32001 to have everything "set up"?
 
Adlo, yes I have called the helpline, the idiots don't keep putting me on hold and goes to ask some1 else, and I do have an ISP account
 
Fax the settings

Ask telkom to fax you ALL the settings.....i'm sure this way it will work best..
The MAIN thing you usely have to change is
1) Proxy server 1 and 2 ( DNS server )
2) Username and Password ( inside your router )
 
OK I had the same problem. If you canget to the telkom website, then you installation is fine. What they had to do on my side was come to the house, call Telkom and actually reset the whole account. Did the verification and all was fine. They didn't even charge me.
 
Sounds more like their verification server has a bug and your line is fine
 
Well telkom admitted to me that there was a problem with the verification server, they finally called me today to sort it out so i will have to wait till i get home to check if it works.
