Does the modem not have a lan cable? If it does then use that.
It will make your life easier

hi man

its a MECER USB ADSL moderm

so 1 the USB goes in it and the Other one the Normal telkom line fits in it

do i have the WRONG MODERM?
cause it says ADSL moderm @ the bottom

oh yes i just want to add

i did not buy that adsl filter

so im using direct my normal Telkom plug direct into the moderm

yep...use the LAN connection rather than the USB one..

The connection should be as follows:

Telkom jack/plug------Mecer Adsl modem (LINE IN)-----LAN cable to LAN port on the PC

***EDIT**** OK so you only have USB ports in the modem?

To change the default connect that is dialed:
Open internet explorer. Under option there is another option called "internet options". Then there's a tab called "Connection". Set that to Only dial when no connection is present.;)

Does this USB modem have some kind of a configuration page (e.g. If I type 196.168.1.1 into my browser it connects to my modem and gives me all the options)?

You'll need a filter if your going to use the line for things besides adsl. The filters are either free or cost ~R49 depending on your luck.

hi guys

its like this

its MECER USB MODERM

on moderm 2 "HOLES"

1-> USB plug conecting to PC-MODERM
2-> ASDL plug conection to telkom line

in device manager,NETWORK ADAPTORS it picks up my moderm as after installing drivers as

YOUR MODEM (rfc1483 mode)

now the SETUP is done HOW,cause a when i try new connection it USE`S MY PC"NORMAL INTERNAL MODEM" as default for conection

how do i select this ADSL modem,or how must the conection be done, im asking this

thanks

You've set up the wrong connection type.

For XP,

- From Network Connection screen, click Create New Connection on the left
- Welcome screen, click next
- Select 'Connect to the Internet', Next
- Select 'Setup my connection manually', Next
- Select 'Connect using broadband connection that requires username and password' This is the step where you went wrong, you probably selected 'Connected using dial-up modem' which was the wrong option.
- Next enter ISP name, 'Telkom ASDL'
- Next, Next, Enter usernam and password, it's a good idea to use the telkom guest account at first just to test (Username = [email protected] Password = guest )
Now try to connect, if you get connected and can browse http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl , then change the username and password to yours and try again

use the guest account to go to www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl to see if the has been verified, if not then verify it.
you can also disable your internal modem in phone and modem settings or device manager if it is giving you problems and delete the connection accosiated with it.
