Hi,

I'm trying to setup my Telkom ADSL line with a Netgear DGN 2200 router (it's a Telkom branded one I got free with the line on the Telkom Simple promotion). I set everything up and followed the wizard. I can't get past the step where it actually tests my internet connectivity. The internet connectivity light on the modem stays red and the test fails. Any ideas on figuring out where the problem lies? I'm assuming that the line was converted today, since Telkom sent me an SMS to collect the router, which I duly did.

Is the sync light on the modem lit up and not red? The sync light is the one with the little twisted cables icon.

Cool, are you using the telkom guest account to connect or do you have you own username and password already? Have you visited the ADSL verification page?

I have a username and password. I actually made it through to the verification page on the first pass, but then I had my 3g modem attached (I optimistically picked the setup ADSL and 3G in one go option). I wasn't sure about the order number. Entered the reference number the sent me in the SMS to pick up the router.

Never use the wizard, always do it manually.

Basic settings: Username and password.

ADSL Settings: Multiplexing Method: LLC Based

VPI 8
VCI 35
DSL Mode Auto

DSL light should be Green and the internet light (the one on the right to the dsl light should be green)

If you need help Via teamviewer PM me your ID and password.

Sorry, but I never use those installation CDs so I have no idea how it works or what it does. I would just open up a browser and go to the verification page: https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/ADSLVERIFY_NEW/

Put that reference number in with your phone number and then you should get a verification success confirmation.

Seems to be what it's set to (if I go look on the Netgear routerlogin.com web interface). Not sure about the DSL mode setting...can't spot that anywhere obvious.

Pull out the DSL cable from the socket for a few secs till the DSL light is blinking and the internet light is off then plug it back.

Gave it a try but no luck. Blinks a bit and goes back to red. I notice on the wizard it fails when testing "ADSL connectivity", which is before it even gets to testing internet connectivity. Settings seem to show that it picks up that it's a 1024kpbs line though.

I was able to browse Telkom.co.za using the Telkom guest test account, so it seems like it could just be an issue with my account. Triple checked my default password. Perhaps I'll have better luck tomorrow.

Phoned Telkom first thing this morning and they reset the password and now it works fine :). Thanks for the suggestions. Seems 8am is a good time to call 10210, didn't even have to listen to call center music.
