Anyone who can help. I am helping a friend to setup his ADSL after he has rebuilt his machine.

Problem 1: When we are running the Setup Wizard CD that came with the Telkom Modem/Router, we get the message "Network error. You have a firewall installed, please disable and try again" Trust me, no firewall installed, XP firewall disabled and antivirus completely deleted from computer.

Then we tried to go to the IP address 10.0.0.2, as it is the default gateway, but there we also get errors.

We then setup the modem on his laptop, plugged the cable from the modem back into the PC and we had connection.

Problem 2: We need to setup the modem from the PC in order to get the wireless connection to the laptop to work. From the laptop we can't get the wireless connection to the PC to work as the PC does not have a wireless LAN card installed, as the modem has the wireless connectivity.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the MyADSL Forums! :D

What errors do you get? What ADSL modem is it?

Side note (checklist):
Modem powered&on? Modem Directly Plugged in at PC and modem side with Ethernet cable? Network card in working order/active?

Setting up Telkom Router/Modem

Hey ,

Goto Network connections, and then properties of the local area network. Make sure the IP address is set to automatic. The DHCP should assign then, but always check.

Then plug in the network cable from the modem into the computer network port. Now rlick on local area network and goto status. Click support.

Now have a look and wait and see if DHCP assigns an ip address. If you see that it does then u can goto 10.0.0.2 and play around as much as u want.

If it doesnt, then there may be a problem and u wont be able to goto 10.0.0.2. Reset the modem ... Disable and re-enable the local area network and try again. You have tried the cable in the laptop, so it cant be that.

Lastly, if there is no local area connection under network connections, then go to your bios and enable it, and try again. Small chance of this , but ive seen it :)
