Hey all

Have an issue with the ADSL sometimes dropping when the phone is picked up so wanted to check that it is set up correctly.

I have one of those Telkom Netgear routers with the cables that plug into the power adapter. This is the set up:

The main telephone cable goes directly to the "Line In" of the power adapter. No filters or anything.
The Filter Splitter plugs into the "Line Out" of the power adapter, then telephone goes to telephone and ADSL goes to router.

I'm not sure if maybe one of those single filters is supposed to go on the "Line In" or if there's supposed to be another filter for the telephone after the filter splitter.

The internet has also lately been dropping randomly and is seldom up for longer than an hour, the noise margin also varies a lot and sits anywhere between 16db and 6db. Often sitting at around 10db.

Line attenuation is 20db downstream and 13.5db upstream.

My set-up with the Telkom Pace router: Come out of wall -> filter/splitter, one phone -> other goes into the in slot, plug cable in out slot and into router. Works for me.

Try replace filter
Any noise on line?
Any other phones in house?
See if stats better when plug adsl only into wall jack, other phones plugged out

Well it appears to be an issue on Telkom's side because now it's working fine and I did nothing.

That is until it decides not to work.
