hi gents

i've recently gotten myself an Mweb ADSL account and it came with the Billion 7401 router. still waiting for telskum to install a jackpoint near by consoles, so for the moment i am just connecting my PS3 via the built in wireless adapter.

question is, will i be able to connect both the PS3 and the Xbox to their respective PSN/LIVE networks (using 2 ethernet cables) once my router is sitting nearby?

only reason i am wondering, is coz last night, when i connected my laptop to the router via wireless, it dropped my PS3 wireless connection. surely i should be able to have concurrent connections ??

It should be able to do that cause i've got my pc and 360 hooked to the same router (helkom mega 100wr) and both are connected online at once !

Yup, definitely should be able to connect more then one device wireless and also with cable to the router.

Check you network settings, maybe you have both the console and laptop set to use the same IP Address????

i hope its not an mweb issue, coz on their "myadsl.mweb.co.za" webite, one of the statements is max concurrent connections = 1 but when i asked them about it, they said thats number of different routers which can share this account.

i guess i'll will have a better idea once telskum decide to pitch up to install jack point

off topic : i've been waiting for about 5 days for them to fix the voice portion of my line. they switched ADSL on, and then decided to switch voice off. but obviously its asking too much for them to put the voice back on at the exchange, without making me wait the usual 2-3 weeks

hmm...but they are both set to dynamically obtain IP, so surely there should not be conflict?

should i setup PS3 with static IP?

Yeah if its set to obtain dynamically it shouldnt be a problem.

Try, the static route, never know, it might work.

The router is close to the console right? Else weak signal might be an issue.

its not that close, but getting signal strength of around 35%. but i find it too much of a coincidence that just when my laptop connected, the PS3 dropped.

but i'm on edge anyway, coz about 4 or 5 times, my connection has just gone dead. the ADLS light is on, but the PPP light goes out and connection is kaput. seems to happen about 5-10 mins after i plug the laptop into the router.

Check the router isn't set to "bridge" mode, ie it's trying to act like a modem instead of a router. That would explain why only one device would work at a time.

Wireless is a very different beast, your throughput drops off significantly as you add more devices, there is a lot of loss as devices contend for the airwaves. Even WAN's in you neighbours houses can interfere.

If your router is dialing the adsl account then its only 1 concurrent connection as your router nats everything. Make sure your router is not in bridged mode.
