Hey folks

Is anyone else experiencing really really slow ADSL connectivity in Cape Town or anywhere else.
I am struggling to open websites, getting many timeouts, enormous pings, and getting nothing done.

I hope this issue is resolved soon!!!

Regards

It's not just you, happened last night round midnight and has been absolutely abysmal since then. I called Telkom this morning to report a fault and was told they've been aware of "issues" in Cape Town since the 26th (!?) of April, but they have no idea that service has degraded to this point.

2600ms pings to local sites with patchy browsing added in - just great.

sloooow I.S ?!

yip...here in the Vaal also.

I.S dead slow :( ...

and it isn't like its raining or public holiday having anything 2 do with it?!?!?!

MrBeep? anyone?

uunet runs QUICK QUICK..
dunno about saix.

I have had similar problems since 11pm last night (also in Cape Town) - I could not authenticate to CyberSmart yet when logging onto the site (via my cell phone) my account seemed fine. I seem to have authenticated now but even local sites take ages to load and international is pretty much a no hope. Trace Routes seem to have horrific latency as well - time outs etc.

Lo and behold.. back to normal..

Holding thumbs it stays this way..

Yep, also experiencing major problems with ADSL as of this morning ~02:00am - getting disconnected all the time, major packet loss, and slower than a mentally retarded dog .

I spent 50 minutes on the phone running the gauntlet with Telkodemonopolies' 0800DSLDSL, and eventually convinced the beast's agent to log the problem.

Exchange: Olivedale (Jhb).

Looks like I will be using HSDPA a lot this month instead of ADSL.

PS: Did I mention how much I really really hate Telkodemonopolies and its crappy ADSL disservice...

<added>Seems to be better now, still nearly an hour I had to waste on the phone with one of the beast's agents :(.</added>

I am also in CT. Getting slow speeds, Web page timeouts.

Max speeds are 10.5kb/s if i am lucky.

IS Uncapped 512K Express Account
1MB / 4MB Line

Cheers
BB :)

I'm getting pathetic international speeds on my openweb IS account.

Slow speeds international

A part of a conversation I had with a knowledgeable technician at iBurst this morning concerned problems with overseas links outside South Africa beyond the control of Telkom and any other service providers.

This is probably the reason for slow international due to routing round the problem area.

I have the same setup bladebob,

IS Uncapped 512K Express Account (Openweb)
1MB / 4MB Line

Getting crapola speeds internationally, used to maxx out on giganews but now i'm getting 1/10 of the speeds. Anyone know:

1) How long has it been like this?
2) Why is it like this?
3) How long do they plan to keep it like this?

IS is...

also in near cape town, verry slow with my 512 connection, does anyone know when the speed will improve come to norm (512kbps)

Yea same story here... and it started around 25th April. Since I play wow im getting **** latencies now on my unshaped internet...Use to have 180ms to the server and its now 380ms. As far as I can see in terms of EU we are going through Sweden now, and clearly they suck.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone really knows what they are doing... I mean I want to go to connect to Paris yet "they" send me to Sweden. How stuped can you be!?

I'm also having issues here in joburg... the speeds seem to fluctuate between 2kb and 10kb

Will i wake up out of this nightmare

THE MAIN QUESTION IS
WHEN WILL WE BACK TO OUR NORMAL SPEEDS< WHICH ARE ALREADY SLOW ENOUGH?

Having BIG issues here in Cape Town, yet only certain exchanges seem to be affected. I play WoW on 2 unshaped accounts, usually get around 400ms ping, sitting at 5 - 9k now :( Damn you once again Telscum you filthy animals - I hope your eyes get poked out with a fishfork.

Me as well =(

Yeah, I logged on today on EU realms, thought servers were laggy due to maintenance day (it has happened before!) so phoned Cybersmart, was informed of no problem. Getting 2000+ ms - unplayable. On a shaped 384kbs account, normally average 500-700ms.

Logged on to the local Warcraft 3 Server and pinged it, 700ms ping whereas I normally have 40 and below.

Saw in the chat channel there that they are replacing the DSLAM at Clareinch (in Claremont, Cape Town). However this could be rumor, but I doubt this is gonna get rectified tonight.

The problem is not just isolated to cape town, nor is it just an international connectivity issue. Even local sites like MyADSL are sluggish
