Hi Guys, what kind of download speeds should i get from my adsl if it's correctly setup, the fastest i have downloaded so far is 53kb/s, and is there any good local p2p servers that a person can connect 2, other than zahub, seeing as it's offline for the last week or two [}:)].

Thanx

Slapwapy,

With the line supposed to be limited to 512kbps, the maximum possible speed you can expect to get out of it is 64KB/s. Unfortunately, that is not the case. It appears that instead of limiting to 512kbps, Telkom have set the limit somewhere around, or just above 50KB/s, which is actually 400kbps. The best speeds you can expect to see under normal conditions will be around 52KB/s. Anything higher is pure luck.

As for P2P networks. I'm afraid it doesn't really matter wether you are making a local or international connection, if your DSLAM is heavily utilized at the time, you will only be allocated 7% of the available bandwidth for P2P applications, so you might expect to see speeds of 8KB/s or so, but nothing better than that, unless you are very lucky.

Actually, while you're sitting at 512K available to you, this is a theoretical maximum and with TCP overhead and line noise anything > 54KB/s will be uncommon. If you're seeing about 52/54KB/s then you're looking at about as good as you'll get.
