I have gotten reports countrywide of poor times and intermittent failures.
Personally, my SAIX and IS accounts are working fine though.
Usual Telkom "best effort".

Looks rather fine to me? (especially considering the fact that it's office hours - saix's network often struggles at this time - for some reason on some days i get like 500ms 2nd :/)

so basically you can go buy a nokia cellphone from your nearest cellphone shop. get a sim card in it. a data cable. connect it all together. click CONNECT on your computer. and get it at R0.50/MB no matter what speed you use it at?
the reason sky-connect "exsists" is they provide to rural areas with no DSL. but then so does vodacom, mtn, cellC and virgin mobile.... so ja hey whatever...
oh just another thing. "you also need a ku-band satelite service" which is like R3000 pm isnt it?

How can anyone say that this is a rip-off or that it is expensive? Will some of the previous contributors who claim this take the time to explain?
If you compare the price per 1GB of data which is downloaded at the relevant speed does it not give the user the option to determine how much or how little he would like to spend?
When using a service from Telkom they either install a 256k / 384k / 512k or 1024k line at a fixed monthly rental cost. So you are stuck with what you have ordered or need to pay a migration charge.
As I understand sky connect offer the ability for a user to select what speed they would like to download at and pay the relevant per 1GB cost or part thereof. You only pay for what you use, and your balance is carried over to the next month...
They call it "Pre-Paid Internet" similiar to Pre-Paid Cellular...
No monthly rental charges / No Additional ISP Account / 4,096k download (4x that of telkom adsl or iburst).
R3,000pm for a satellite link from sky connect? I think you are mistaken. They charge per 1GB of data downloaded, there is no additional cost beside the data cost.
Could a respresentative of sky connect confirm this? Are they available on this forum?
I believe that people should ask questions first before making assumptions.

do the company who owns the actual satelite in space give you access to it for free? NO.
Sky connect gives you the internet part. like IS or MWeb gives you the internet part at about R250 per 3gb. even if that dish and everything is provided by Sky Connect, they still will NEVER give you a satelite dish and EDGE or whatever they use to upload data, for FREE with no contract or anything. the R3000 (was a estimate) but that was the fee to have the satelite dish and everything at your house. (its not a DSTV satelite dish so you cant use the same one).
its like VirginMobile that say "here is cheaper calls and data rAtes" but you must have your own phone, or buy one from them "cash". only dif is a phone is cheap, a satelite dish and EDGE routers that you will need, is not cheap...

exactly, it doesnt even say that the uploading part is included in the rate? so you may even get a wopping huge bill from vodacom or someone for your gprs uploads...
