I will try again. I have posted a similar thread before, but I will probably have to rephrase it.
I got my 192 line lastweek and I had some speed-problems, or what seems like speed problems. I logged a complaint on Sunday and then suddenly everything was fine on Monday afternoon - I could download at 20 to 40 kBytes/s. I was tinkering around with some settings (http://www.dslreports.com) on Monday, so I don't know whether it was me or Telkom that fixed the problem. I did however start to experience a problem that I could not connect to my work's Exchange server to read my e-mail. I guess that I changed something (it seems like the Sygate firewall can cause this) which did not work with Exchange. In order to fix this problem I did a system restore back to what my system status was on Monday morning. Now my Exchange is back again, but my ADSL speed problem is also back. I did not use the line yesterday and I did not check to see what the speed was like this morning before I did the system restore.
When I go to the Telkom Speedtest site, I can download the ftp test file at a rate of 18kB/s which is fair, but the http test gives me rates of about 4 kB/s. This agrees with what I get when I use DAP for downloading. I use the Nukecap FreeVPN proxy, but my torrent speeds are still very slow. My ADSL light on my modem keeps blinking intermittently. I called Telkom and thet say my line are testing all fine.
Now here is my question: what am I to do? Is the problem at my side in terms of software? Jason at Web-Africa says that it is a Telkom problem. As far as I understand the ADSL light is supposed to be steady, so what does it mean if it is blinking? I have a Telkom 5100 modem.
Any advice from anyone? I logged a complaint and insisted on a actual line-test, but is there anything else that I can do?
