For most of this morning ADSL has been very slow and when asked, Telkom said that they were having problems and gave me a reference number. The traffic has been rerouted and ADSL is working at normal speed. Took about 6 hours to get back to normal speed from when I first noticed it and about 2 hours after I reported it.

But that's not the purpose of this post.

It is often very difficult to get information out of Telkom about the problems that seem to hit them fairly often. I was wondering if there was a public log where we could post a summary of our problems with ADSL (perhaps including their reference number) which would allow all of us to see what the problems that people are experiencing are and the frequency of those problems. The objective of this would be an attempt to make Telkom more accountable for their service as they would be able to comment on the problems that users have experienced if a reference number is given.

This could be set up as a forum or a public blog.

Does this sort of thing already exist?

The SAIX noticeboard (which is actually Telkrap) is supposed to provide the facility - they've constrained public access the last time i looked, however...

They don't care, ADSL is not a guaranteed service :( . Could be down a week and legally they wouldn't have to do a damn thing

I know that they don't care and are not legally bound to provide anything but an area like this could be a good reference point for people that are having problems or who are thinking of getting ADSL. I think that a lot of new ADSL subscribers expect the package to work at the advertised speed of 512 (or whatever they've subscribed to) and it would be useful for them to see that this isn't what they will get.

It's a bit like putting the complaints box of a company on public display. Except in this case the complaints can be verified complaints if the user posts the reference number that Telkom gives them and the resolution to the problem. This is also fair on Telkom if there is a malicious user posting.

It really makes my blood boil with the 'no guarantee' spoof they offer their customers. It's like buying a car and paying it off monthly but signing a contract stating it is not guaranteed to work. It's utter BS.
