Ok, so about two days ago my ADSL speed went down to 1mb/S. I reported it to 30591, no response this time.

So today, I decided to chose a DNS server manually. I did that (Cisco IP) and the problem is solved, back to normal speed.

-Did you do a speedtest via speedtest.net?
Yes I did, it confirmed 1Mb/S. (I can't rember if I did a SAIX speed test or another one)

-Did you change your DNS on the router or on your laptop/pc? To what did you change it to?
I changed it on the Router(I chose cisco IP), from Automatically to manual & specified=Googled for best DNS servers.

huh? I just took a chance, I completely forgot about the DNS server can effect speed, but the reasoning is once connected it should not, however it did. (Just for info to try)

Hopefully not a random DNS? It is normally recommended that you use either your ISP's DNS or if you are having issues, as in your case, to rather use 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 as alternatives.

Best best is to ping these to determine the one with the lowest ping, and switching to that set.

I will keep it for a week and change back and see what happen. The DNS server may not effect everybody in same town/exchange, but they should realise theres a problem in a weeks time.

I am also getting 1mb since yesterday, tried google and cloudflare dns now, but no difference : ( LTE is fine.

Ping and upload is normal.

Which DNS did you use?

edit: I have tried Vox WA and Axxess all the same speed issue.

Search for Cisco DNS.
My speed was low. I did speed test=1mb/s. I search for best DNS servers, decided on the Cisco one. Changed the Router to manual and insert the Cisco IP, saved, reboot router. Speed back to normal, still working 100%.
Note:I rebooted the router many times over the 2 days, and that did not help.

Interesting, my speed dropped to 1Mb from this morning, line still syncs at 5Mb. I'm with Afrihost so I tried WebAfrica and same results. I called 10210 and they reset the port which switched me from interleaved to fast path and now I'm syncing at 4Mb and speed tests show 3.7Mb. Funny how this happens after the 3 month upgrade when my line was running at 12Mb and was super stable.

Aka opendns? 208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220.

Do not blindly change your DNS to the above unless you have issues.

Check the ping first.

I had the same problem, on a 40mbs line my speed was under 1mbs. I tried 4 different ISP accounts, with default DNS as well as Open DNS and Google DNS servers and there was no difference. I contacted Afrihost who sent a fault report to Openserve, and a short while later I could not access the internet at all. At the moment my line is connected but I cannot access any websites. My line is syncing at 40mbs but no internet. I just sent another Whatsapp to Afrihost and am awaiting a reply.

I am experiencing this same issue on an Openserve 50/25 fibre line. Up and down speeds are less than 1mbit. Tried a free Axxess account to rule out ISP (Cool Ideas), same issue. When I spoke to Cool Ideas Support they mentioned that there have been quite a few reports of slow line speeds on Openserve in Durban, Joburg and CT.

Had the "1mbps Issue" yesterday as well.
Called telkom *vomit* and they "reset" it and everything was back to normal by the time I ended the call.
This seems to have been a "thing" with many people the last couple of days.
