Hi,
I'm on a 384 package, use to get 520+ on download, now I'm down to just above 300, what happened, only Volksrust, Mplanga?

Sought Of

I have noticed something slightly haven't really downloaded that much this month but internetional connections seems a little slower compared 2 last month:eek:

I'm on 512 & dont always get maximun download speed, but it does go over occasionally, so consider urself lucky u were gettin those speeds. Me myself I would like some 1mb speeds on my 512:rolleyes:

ADSL fairy hear my call

I experienced the same a couple of months ago on my 192 line, reaching 384 line speeds, with downloads. Then it stopped dead, and a week later I get a call from a Telkom sales rep offering me a "special" where I can upgrade my line to 384 without any extra charges! Me confused at this point, cause as far as I know line speed upgrades have always been free of charge!?!

So I ask: "Are you telling me that there will be no extra monthly charges, i.e. my monthly rental stays the same?"
Answer: "No, only the line speed upgrade is free, but the monthly charges will be more"

I ask: "So what's the special then, a.f.a.i.k. it has always been free of charge to upgrade?"
Answer: "The special is that we will upgrade your line speed free of charge."

At this point I hung up the phone.
Hehe so maybe expect a phone call soon.

Been having a similar problem for the past 3 days now. Im on a 192k line and i usually get 280-300kbit/sec from both local and intl. Now for the past 3 days, my bandwidths been throttled at 160kbit/sec stable. Yesterday my line went completely dead (adsl light on modem went off) for about 3 hrs. Thats telscum for ya :P

I've noticed that if I connect in the day I usually get 384kbps (on a 384 kbps line) but if I connect late at night it connects at +- 500 kbps. This happens 9 our of 10 times, and lasts until the next reset.

I do a line speed test on a daily basis. I always clocked 440 kpbs on DSL 384 from installation. I did question this at installation and the techie said to me that Telkom don't throttle download speeds according to a set procedure but tries to main QoS at the DSL package speed.

The about a wee k ago the speed fell to 320 kbps, I logged a trouble ticket to have the speed increased to at least 384 kbps as a minimum, that is afterall what I am paying for!

About three days ago the speed cam e back up to 440 kbps and after speaking to Telkom they claimed to have done nothing to the setup, line or DSLAM. I wanted to know what they did to be able to tell them in the future what to fix if it happened again :D

My take on this, is that they will randomly reduce speed to certain users to reduce loading on backhual systems. Some users never complain or realise that the are getting below package speeds and then some of us test the line continuously to ensure we get what we paying for. ;)

My friend has DSL192 and get in excess of 220 kpbs

ADSL IS BULLSH!T, I went to a friends house this weekend, downloaded SAIX accelerator and opened a few pages (microsoft.com and a few other international ones) The speed was astounding, loading times were fast, it's faster than adsl, don't try a download on 56k, but the fact of the matter is how can you have fast download speeds and **** browsing speeds. Adsl is a hoax, I hate ADSL, love the download speeds, but surfing sucks balls.

Sorry I gave such little info up front, but I thought you guys only needed half a word to understand.
Download: 317,944 bps
Upload: 60,336 bps
it use to be 520,123 bps for download, where's my speed gone?

When I got my 192 line in December was getting download speeds of 33K plus.

Now I struggle to get 20K

Its seems like one of those restaurants that give big portions when they open up and then shrink the portion as time passes.

my R2 worth

the saix accelerator uses a local server which fetches the pages u want and compresses all the data.. also degrades the jpg quality to a user defined level. Considering that 90% of website download is spent on jpgs, making them 1/5 of the size will obviously make a 56k connection download the degraded page like 256k connection would the normal page

Well he was getting more speed than he was paying for, now he is getting what he should be for a 384 connection... He should have enjoyed it while it lasted...
