ADSL speeds up ?

I've noticed more data being consumed over the last few days, for similar tasks. I've been on a 384 line, and am now wondering if Telkom have upped the speed to 512 recently, without prior notifice (in my area, at least?)

Please refer to Speed Test done a few minutes ago - would be interested if anyone knows any more about this, as I've never before shown .420 Mb/sec on this line - the most before has been about
.300 - .320 Mb/sec.

Is .420 a realistic speed to expect for 512 or should it be even more ?
 
i guess for 512 you should be getting .512 no?

perhaps they upgraded your DSLAM.
 
I regulary had these 'bumps' to around 0.42mbps as well. My line to the exchange is good so probably the 'limiter' isnt really that accurate and allows these short bursts. Or something. I have no idea what I am talking about. :whistle:

I doubt it, it's usually a little bit less.

0.42 is sort of the max one should be getting give or take 0.01. I get that on a good day, always have.

Even more strange, your speed slightly faster (to Jo'burg-further away) than mine was (to Newlands, CPT-closer to PE). Thought it should be the other way around, but may also have something to do with distance away from the exchanges, among other things ?
 
I presume you're referring to a 384 speed, not 512 ?
 
I have noticed the same speeds lately. If you look at the 512k line specs on telkom's wesite. http://www.telkom.co.za/products_services/dsl/dslaccesonly.html
512 minimum = 416 down and 192 up.
Makes me think with all the talk going around about the 4Mb uping to 8 or 10.
Would be interesting to know if the exchanges in use with all seeing this "speed increase" has been upgraded to handle the new 8/10Mb speeds.
