ADSL speeds

Hi I just got adsl from telkom at 4Mbps and a D-link DSL-2750U
i was excited to start using the internet but i was disappointed when i was not experiencing great speed and bit torrent was very slow i tried download wit idm and it was also slow i thought i would be getting around 3mbps as i know you down get the full speed also the wifi is also slow i would like to know if i should change my service provider or get a better router or is there settings i should change any help would be appreciated

check the location of your router & where the line crosses eg. is it near to any electrical devices apart from your pc of course.
i had telkom come thru & check the poll that my line is on & it appeared that there was some rust on the cables now im syncing at 10 but before that i was jumping around anywhere from 4-10 on an almost 3hourly basis.

one thing you should be aware of is it also depends on which servers you download from test on a local server or do a speed test to get a better idea.

I have had a 4 Meg Telkom line since 1 Feb and the best speed that I can get from PE to CT is 3.2 Mp/s.
I an 750 m form a newly commissioned SLAM. Anybody any idea what I can expect, leaving out problems with TI?
