Just for all the newbies out there concidering ADSL, I'll share with you what to expect.
I currently don't have any Telkom services, so if you really want ADSL these are the startup costs.

1. R342.30 installation cost for the Telkom phone line.
(Even though it says that the Closer options doesnt have any activation or installation charge, all the Closer packages are "Add-On's" on your existing Telkom phone line. So if you don't have any services from Telkom, your going to pay the R342.30 come hell or high water. )
2. R99 phone line rental.
(You will incur this cost for as long as it takes the technician to test your ADSL line/setup/connectivity. )
3. +-R400 Installation charge for ADSL
(You may be lucky, in that by the time the techie gets to test your line for ADSL compatability, you could take the 'Self-install' option, if not, bam another R400 bucks for the ADSL installation. Not too sure if the techie would ever say you can do the self install, as he could score R400 for doing it.
From what the Telkom operator could explain to me, what you get for the R400 bucks is a Telkom dude coming to your house, pluggin in the filters and the modem. C'mon, any kiddie that played Lego for a couple of minutes would be able to do that. Not sure who in their right mind would not take the Self-install option. )
4. R245 for 384K
5. ISP charges.
There have been many posts regarding this issue, I do however feel that when going to the Telkom site
