Hi all,

I've been having endless hassles with my ADSL over the last 4-6 weeks. Either there is no connection to the exchange or when the line connects, the speeds are super slow. I'm getting the runaround between MWeb and Telkom. MWeb my line is not syncing at the correct speed. Telkom reckons it is and it's the service providers fault.

My question: how do I check what speed my modem/line is syncing so that I am armed with my own numbers when phoning both entities. I've logged numerous calls with Telkom and I'm getting nowhere. I'm supposed to have a 2Mb line and a 1Mb uncapped package ...

Thanks

Log into your router to see the stats there. Most routers more or less tell you what your line syncs at or the SNR and line attenuation. These stats tend to give a pretty good indication what is going on with your line and line speeds.

Connect with a different ADSL account (eg Afrihost free 1GB account) and check speed using www.speedtest.net. This will show if the problem is with the ISP (Mweb) or the line (Telkom).
