ADSL syncing (?) but no connection

Hi

I got a call from Telkom late last week informing me that my ADSL will be activated in 7 days (I ordered self install).

Being optimistic, this weekend I installed my Billion 7300G just to check its settings, but then I saw the ADSL light is solid. I understand this means it’s syncing to the DSLAM. However I can’t get anything to work, no connection to my ISP (Webafrica), no connection to Telkom, anything.

Does Telkom still need to connect my ADSL or does the solid light on the router mean the connection is OK? If so, why doesn’t anything else work?

at what speed does your ADSL line sync ??

Usually if it sync's. You just need to dail into your ISP account via your ADSL modem

384 upstream, 992 downstream, from what I can gather. (Although I applied for a 384 line...) Don't know enough about routers to know what settings to change, if any. I was hoping to just plug-n-play, hehe.

Telkom has not activated your ADSL line yet. Give them a call and tell them to activate it. That is the most commen problem when you take a self-install.
