Lets us stat from the beginning.
(1) there are 2 very distinct elements to connecting to the Internet via ADSL. The first is the ADSL line connection, and the second is to sign up to an ISP.
(2) The ADSL line MUST be in place before anything else, tested and working. The best solution is to get this from Telkom as all ADSL lines are provided by Telkom regardless. It is also much easier if you currently have a working landline service to get this sorted out through Telkom. When you contact Telkom. you need to get the ADSL service added to your existing account. They will provide you with an order number and a reference number . The service will be activated, and you will get an SMS with the details you need as soon as the service is available. the ADSL router ( if connected to your line) should now synch with the ADSL service. If this does not happen, none of the other steps will work.
(3) Connect the ADSL modem to the line via a line filter IF you want to be able to use the landline and the ADSL connection. The line connection should go to the power supply surge protection unit first, then to the ADSL modem. The second port on the surge protection box is then used to plug the line filter in and then the telephone plugs into that unit.
(4) once all this is set up, Your PC must be plugged into one of the ports on the ADSL modem and then you follow the processes as detailed below.
(5) Once you know the ADSL connection is up and running and tests okay, only then can you proceed to the next step and set up the service with your chosen ISP
