ADSL terrible in Parow

No weather is perfect. I am also in Parow and have almost zero internet. Have tried to get email from before 8 this morning no success as yet. Tried wow earlier today with 35k ping and only on occation can open a myadsl page .... lol yep its stuffed in our area. Must say I tried both shaped and unshaped bandwidth with the same result.

Also tried reporting it on the number telkom provides on its webpage 10215 I think .. a joke and phoned about 100 x to 0800375375 --got through twice to a neverending repeat of "a cellphone is charged at regular rates ....." without the promised consultant ever becoming available.

Me to dude, Im in Sea Point, our internet cafe is running a 4mb line and the speeds are shocking...

Im in Kloof street in Gardens and ours has also been terrible all day.
We have both an IS and a SAIX line and both local and international are shocking!!!!
When is this going to end

Cape Town having issues

Don't know how the ADSL is in other areas but it is terrible in Parow. I get 256kb/s on a 4mbit line.

Cape Town is having issues at the moment I believe. I spoke with an ISP and they mentioned that Telkom was doing maintenance and messed something up so people are being dropped and the connection in CT area is very unstable. I am also having many issues as are many of my associates all over the Cape area. Just thought I'd mention it. Telkom is attending to it as I understand.

..pl1982 was too quick for me here ;)..
Status : New

Slow here as well. Using both IS and SAIX. Downloading a file locally @ 0.1 KB/s

11kb/sec local in Melville Jhb, IS has been shocking the last few days.

Can be the weather. :)

Yep. Telkom cables under water perhaps?

Similar problem here is Cape Town although not weather related.
AFAIK ADSL connects to JINX first before it routes further, so we are all effected by the slowdown. :(

Come along Telkom. Pay those people Overtime and get the problem sorted ASAP. ;)

Unfortunately the resolved status did not improve anything with me. Trying currently to download a 2 mb patch via wow servers and am now at 18% after 30 minutes of downloading. Took me a couple of tries to post this as well.

Switch router off and resync again it might help

Hey everyone

I'm out in the Parow area too, and our ADSL was completely down from Friday evening 23:45 till Monday afternoon 12:00. Was on the phone to Telkom several times on Saturday morning, and after several assurances that there were no problems what so ever, the finally admitted at 18:00 that there was a problem at the exchange.

Since it's come back on though, connectivity has been intermittent, and when it has been working local crawls in at 16 kbps (on a 384 line), with international being only marginally faster.

I've been unable to download my e-mail (been trying for 2 days to get down 70kB's worth), Guild Wars has been spiking through the roof every minute, and browsing is all but impossible.

One strange thing though is that Skype works without any problems

Why can I not help but feel as though we're all paying for a service that we're not really getting? And am I the only one who wants to hit the roof when I see these adverts for "the best and fastest broadband around!" from local providers?

P.S. Just got off the phone with Telkom again to log a fault regarding slow connectivity, and (once again) they've assured me there are no problems

Damn, how I miss England :p

Hey Moonfruit,

I have the same problems as you. I managed for the first time in 2 days to get a couple of KB's of email down and downloads and online gaming is a big NO. I also logged a fault at 8 this morning and the technician said he could see that the line is spikey (up/down) from his end. He enquired further and found that there is a problem on the saix infrastructure that they are aware of in this regard. (a biggish problem it seems). Anyway its now another 6 hours later with no improvement my side.
