Hi
I currently have an ADSL 10 Mb line and it works fairly well. We have no fibre in our area.

My ASUS router tells me that the line is capable of 20Mb.

I requested Telkom to upgrade to 20Mb VDSL but they reckon their system says our area cannot do 20Mb so they can't upgrade me.

Why would my router indicate that the line can do it? I would rather have 20Mb VDSL as the cost is less tah a R100 more a month.

My ISP is Axxess capped package which I use to stream. The reason I want to upgrade is my son teaches English online and the upload speed is too slow.

Anybody have any Telkom connection who can perhaps get this upgrade done?

Thanks in advance

In which exchange area do you live?
The line might be able to support 20 Mbps BUT it depends on the exchange equipment available. You need to be able to connect to a ADSL 2+ or VDSL capable unit in the exchange. If that is not available, then you are up the creek without a paddle.

I do connect with ADSL 2+ I am in PE Lorraine area

Telkom says no VDSL yet Openseve (I thought they were the same people) say it is available

Your router is only doing a calculation based on line stats it receives.

That doesn't automatically mean the exchange is capable of more than that.

However if Openserve says it can be done then that should be the real truth.

Agree. If Openserve say the exchange area is equipped to provide VDSL services then that should be what is available.
Go to Openserve.co.za and check coverage. Enter your address. You should then see what is available for you and the data rates possible.
