Hey all.

I am in a bit of a dilemma. I signed a 24 month contract with Telkom for the provision of their HomeDSL 384 package. I was led to believe that installation would be free (As promised by the support staff and the pamphlet I received). The line was installed on the 27th November. They charged me for the installation. Now, 3 months down the line I am moving to Pretoria as I need a place closer to the university. I had no idea that I would have to do this but these things happen. Is there a way of transferring the ADSL contract (As I don't want to cancel it and pay the penalty fee) from my home in Benoni to Pretoria without paying the penalty fee? I don't mind paying for the installation but I believe that the whole procedure that I have been offered is ridiculous. I would have to cancel my contract and pay the penalty and then re-apply for ADSL and have it re-installed, all at unnecessary costs.

Could anyone cast light on this matter for me?

Thank you

If you still have the pamphlet, visit www.asasa.org.za and submit a complaint of misleading advertising. Telkom already lost twice. The more they are exposed for not-too-true advertising, the better for all.

On the moving section of your question --- what does the fine print say?

You could have opened another can of worms with this one.

My advice
  • Tap out a complaint about this & email it to ICASA tonight (Cc someone @ telkomonopoly as well - maybe someone can p.m. you or post with a suitable @telkom.co.za addy).
  • Tap out an online complaint at www.asasa.org.za for false advertising by telkomonopoly.
Sit back, have a few beers, let the hens start chasing all the roosters about @ telkom.

Thanks for the reply ic. I unfortunately do not have the pamphlet. I did not think I would need it. I shall follow your guidelines. All I want is to keep my line without paying the penalty cost. I may as well cancel the contract if this is the case with Telkom :/.
