Hi,

I hope that some of you can help me. I use dropbox to back up and store all my images for my business and as of late it takes almost 7 days to upload about 500 images (ranging between 2-8Mb). This was never the issue it usually did it in an hour or 2.

I have a 10Mbps Business DSL package with Afrihost and it is unshaped and unthrottled. Here are the router specs at the moment:

Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 896 8128
Max Rate (Kbps) 1008 8128
SNR Margin (dB) 6 17.9
Line Attenuation (dB) 15.5 27.4
Errors (Pkts) 0 0

Now what i dont understand is 1. Why is upload speeds Max Rate so low (1Mb) and 2. Why is it that according to Dropbox its only uploading at 10-23Kbps?

Why is this happening? Any advise or instructions on how to fix this or what the problem is?

PS

Our Telkom Line was replaced 2 days ago as it was very old and was hoping that it would have resolved the issue.

Thanks in Advance

well they havent gotten back to me

and obviously due to it being long weekend i wont be hearing back from them anytime soon

When I give WebAfrica a call the automated voice directing your call warns that they are experiencing capacity issues withe their CT and JHB links. Extra capacity has been allocated but slow speeds will continue. When I spoke to someone they said that it seems there is a problem on the IS backbone and that they can only really get feedback on Tuesday. My Latency in D3 has been a constant 500-1500ms with the odd few seconds where it was back to the normal 183-210ms.

So ya there goes the long weekend gaming session...

It is very simple.

Your uploads are queuing up. Your line becomes very very intermittent once you upload. run a ping 8.8.8.8 -t whilst upload and you will see packet drops this is due to packets being queued up.

Solution: setup a queueing speed, personally I set mien to 512kbps. Wireless link for uploads. or go sit at the mall for couple minutes and use there wifi that hooks up to fibre. (thats best solution ive found).

Might be routing issue. Or maintenance. I did see a notice from IS expecting maintenance.

I own a minecraft server and one of my servers is hosted in Cape Town and almost all players trying to connect to it timeout and alot of players connecting to my main server in Jhb from Cape Town are timing out.

run traceroute to the server then you will see where issue is. more than likely routing was changed
