Hello,

I am wondering if there is a program out there for the Macintosh that can log and determine my internet usage on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.

Unfortunately, here in America, they are thinking about a universal cap of 40G/mo. In Japan, their cap is only 30G/day and ONLY for UPLOADS!

I just need to figure out what my usage is as I am disabled and bedridden and use the internet for my entire social life as I cannot go anywhere.

Thank you,

Anyse

Are you from South Africa, or you just come here because we're experts on bandwidth caps? :p

Anyway, I don't know. But if your ISP does introduce capping, they should provide a way to check your usage through their website.

Someone on this forum coded a Windows program which parsed the info from one's ISP's bandwidth monitor, but obviously it wouldn't work if they don't have one. (That particular app also wouldn't work on a Mac, but it's a simple principle.)

Stop moaning about your 40 gigs a month. I make do with 2! Some even 1!

Hello,

Haven't used it myself since I don't use a Mac, but here's a bandwidth monitor for Macs:
Bandwidth Monitor NG 0.6

Yes, ISPs in the USA & Europe are considering introducing caps since they believe that you should pay for what you use. Also, only 5% of the users on the network use up 50% of the available bandwidth yet they pay the same as the light users. I don't have a problem with caps as long as those caps are realistic and the packages reasonably priced. According to the NY Times, Comcast is considering introducing a 250Gb cap per month. That's what I call reasonable! :)

I'm a heavy user and I'll gladly pay more than others to use more bandwidth, as long as I don't have to pay the price of a car for it.
