Hi, can anybody tell me how to setup my ADSL USB Modem I got from Telkom (doesn't seem such a great idea, judging by the posts around here ..) in Ubuntu 5.04.

I am completely new to Linux ... so will need some step-by-step guide unfortunately.

Thanks in advance !

You have to find a USB modem driver for your specific modem. Unfortunately most manufacturers don't give open source drivers for Linux. Go to the modem website (Should be Marconi from Telkom?).

I had a USB ISDN modem and could not get a driver. So I also could not get it to work, no matter what.

My best advice is : Get a modem/router that work with a network connection.

Good luck

I had the same usb modem you have ,Worked fine with windows till I tried to run a copy of linux .

Wrap up the USB Modem and give it to some one you don't like for xmas.....

In the end I bought a router and all my problems went away .
