I recently moved from Telkom ADSL in Plattekloof Cape Town to Vodacom 3G in Milnerton Ridge
Telkom says I first have to get a landline before they can tell me if ADSL is available ????
Telkom was fine, I had no problems
Vodacom 3G is crap
I keep on losing connection and have to re-connect, in the middle of a download, but I have pay for the wasted bandwidth
I download a 15Mb photo of a car and at 10Mb it disconnects
Re-connect and start again
Is this normal?
I see Openweb Fibre is offering 3Gb at R189, seems too good to be true

ADSL is the best option if you can get it... does the openweb fibre give you an ADSL connection? I only use my 3G as backup. IMO it is not stable enough to be classed as even a business product.

You should definitely get yourself a download manager... that is essential for any broadband downloading, then you will never lose an aborted download again.

I use http://www.getright.com/

but there are also free options... Free Download Manager or Orbit Downloader.

use a download manager as Garyvdh said.

getright and reget is good.

u have to remember using Vodacom's 3G and even HSDPA or any other ISP like MTN 3G etc. It is still wireless. and therefor it is prone to environmental factors.

U could have a certian model of nokia or Motorola or Samsung, some phones have much higher signal quality and signal strength in exact same Room. (meaning location). If your signal quality or strength is low, u will disconnect alot. I've been in area's where 3G was rock solid. (was a good phone and not many obstacles, buildings or hills in the way) :>

I've even seen people who get poor signal in one part of the house, and just move to another part and get amazing Signal strength and quality (with laptop)

Start -> Run -> Type in CMD. *black dos box will popup*
Type in Ping karoo.mweb.co.za -t *thats a gaming server that u can ping* *press control+C to cancel the ping*

U will then see your cellphone or wireless router pinging that gaming server.
If you move the router or cellphone around, u'll see the pings getting higher or lower, or even get ping-timeouts. (low pings good, high pings bad) *lesser timeouts = more stable connection* :>

Thanks a lot, I have had to connect three times in less than 30 minutes, click on next page and nothing,,,, re-connect, Telkom ADSL was MUCH better

Yes I know. I had this fight with virgin mobile. I download something and they go down due to tooo much traffic and I allready get charged for the wasted bandwidth. cost me a fortune I tell you. ADSL is much better
