ADSL versus Wireless Broadband

Nice column - will it be a regular one?
The reality is that overseas, ADSL is the heavyweight in this fight. Wireless broadband is widely seen as a new contender, but it will take a while for this technology to mature to a stage where it will be ready for the title fight.
IMO there is a singular reason for this and that is availability - just about everyone has a landline there - the same cannot be said here so alternatives are often the only solution available.

I dont think people who dont have a landline are ever going to bother with broadband.. or do you mean that they dont have a landline due to other reasons besides that they cant afford it?

Im preyty sure you can get a Telkom line everywhere in the country where you could get broadband, if people choose not to have a landline then it could well be the same in other countries.

In future we will most likely see ADSL and wireless broadband services co-existing peacefully alongside each other, similar to fixed line phones and mobile handsets today.

And in future future, there will be no meaningful distinction between fixed and wireless internet? Maybe?

Perhaps you meant to post something like this:
Im pretty sure you can get a Telkom line everywhere in the country where you could get ADSL
If that is not what you meant, and you meant to post:
Im pretty sure you can get a Telkom line everywhere in the country where you could get wireless broadband
then you would be incorrect in your assumption - there are plenty of areas which Telkodemonopolies has failed to serve with either copper or fibre, and that includes the areas where people are fairly well off.
