ADSL vs 3G

Which one is better and why?

What are the pros and cons of each?

I have a pc, soon MIGHT get a laptop, so I'm not sure.

ChrrstinaAlexia, it depends how important mobile internet connectivity is to you. If there is any chance that you are going to want internet access on your laptop when away from home, then look at one of the cellphone networks for your internet connection. If you requirement is for "large" data usage (eg 2 or 3GB per month), then look at ADSL cos it is going to be cheaper that way - R450 for 2GB (including Telkom line rental and ISP) against R1000 for the same 2GB on the mobile networks.

Hope that helps.

My suggestion is always to first look at what you can get in the area(s) where you need a broadband connection: eliminate services that are not available to you - even ADSL is not available in many urban areas, and wireless services also don't cover every part of the country.

Once you have a shortlist of services that are available, then make a decision based on mobility, price, low & stable latency, etc.

Depending on how much you're going to be using internet away from home it might be worth getting ADSL and then just a prepaid sim for cellphone internet when you're away.

If ADSL is Available and you are only going to be using the internet at home... even if you will be in the yard or the bedroom (using a wireless router)... still go with ADSL.... but as soon as you are going to be using your laptop elsewhere on a fairly regular basis... then go with 3G.
