Dear All,

I have been contacted by Telkom for ADSL installation next week (4mbps), and I have been with Amobia for almost three months now, and there service I receive from them is very good (I have no problem with the Internet since I signed with Amobia). I basically use the Internet for online TV streaming. I need your advice should I cancel Amobia and go with Telkom, or is better to continue with them.

I live in Cape Town, Woodstock.

Regards,

ADSL Pros:
-Better, and more consistent, latency.
-Weather (usually) doesn't affect it much.
-More consistent speed (usually).
-Cheaper data.

ADSL Cons:
-Telkom customer support is absolute garbage lately (expect 1~2 hours on hold phoning them).
-ADSL always has issues eventually, because it's copper.
-Can be worse speeds than WiFi.
-Not portable like WiFi. Moving houses? Can't just change the antenna direction. New line is required to be set up (a week to wait for internet).
-You're gonna need a new router.

I'd suggest not going with Telkom for your line and data if you are going to make the change... Use Afrihost or WebAfrica or something -- Unless you want your blood pressure to rise like a thermometer in a kettle.

Is your wireless package uncapped? You will get more volume on ADSL for much less but it all depends on whether your current data is adequate for your needs or not, seeing you are streaming you might get more from ADSL ( the freedom to not limit quality etc)
