Will voip work better on a wireless internet conmection (e.g. using a provider like Snowbal, Sonic, etc), or Adsl? Both at 10meg down, 1meg up. We need 5 concurrent calls to work.

Also, can rhis line be shared with data if (emails, web) if qos is set up?

If ADSL in your area is of a decent quality then it can work for voice. Success on a WISP will largely depend on if they are geared for carrying voice. We've seen some interesting NAT issues at one or two WISPs which really messed up SIP traffic. If you have good LTE coverage in your area you could also consider that as an option. We've had good success on Telkom mobile LTE for voice.

You've mentioned 5 concurrent calls, but haven't mentioned the codec you want to use, this has an impact on the size of the link you need.

QoS can work, but it's always best to physically separate voice and data.

No LTE coverage in the area.

Codec. Well whichever works best. No preference.

Who would be your Voip provider? Do you have the link in place? If you do, then you can run a test, and see. I suggest G729 as codec, most SPs require that,

Can provide you with fibre, wireless, or DSL with VoIP. PM me for more info or go to the business fibre section of www.crystalweb.co.za

All depends on your location, budget, and requirements...

to be safe reserve 50kbps per call on G729(it uses less). that means you can have 10 concurrent calls on a 512kbps up/down connection if you have a guaranteed 512 link

main thing about voip is connectivity, insure it.

some wisps have bizaar nat setups, but it can work fine, you just need to make sure the bandwidth you need you will get, constantly.
