ADSL what the hell...

Well, I want to ask you guys something... it has todo with my current ADSL connection...

fact, i have a 384 kb connection which is great and i can download at around 37kb/s. My logging operations per email was great until 5 days ago....

bear with me, im telling the utter truth here and for once im glad telkom cocked up ( well i think, i need your opinions )

Since 4 days ago, my email logging has not been working and it hasnt been updated with my daily downloads... ive been using the internet assuredly. ALSO to my surprise i am able to download at a SUSTAINED 52KB/s without acceleration programs ( pure windows )... what is going on here??

isnt the 52/kb download = to the 512 ADSL service?? ( which i dont have )

anyone else experience the same?
 
Sounds like telkom resetting caps again.. if u search the forum you'll find alot of ppl talking about how they experienced this last month. By my calculations, u should get around 48 from 384 so 52 sounds about right for this time of the month
 
Turbo, since i got 384, i used to download MAX of 37KB/s, nothing more nothing less even with accelerators...

i wonder how long telkom is gonna take to wakeup to this one??
 
15kb most must feel good... honestly, it sounds like not even telkom knows whats going on. Enjoy the speed and the (un)cap, just shows that we can get more speed and no cap and their network can take it
 
have a look at what line speed your router connects at. for 384 the line speed is 512kbps. for 192 its 320kbps. people on 192 get speeds of around 30-35kBps. so your download speed between 45-55kBps sounds about right.
 
I've got a 384 for about 2 months now. My total dowload speed is averaged at 47kb/sec. Right now, I have 46/kb/sec down and 21kb/sec up.
 
I leave it to everybody for themselves to decide what the right thing is to do. The truth is that Telkom is not capping their Telkom Internet adsl clients. They might be trying to get back customers lost when the cheap 30gig accounts surfaced but they might also be doing something else unknown. Whatever it is, it is unfair to ISPs who are forced to cap their customers...

To buy a TI account or not is up to every person... I just heard it ends at the end of this month... Be that true or not I don't know...

Many people experience 512 compareble speeds on 384 lines... Perhaps the techies just forget to configure it or something... Enjoy!
 
Your "new" speeds sound about right MegaCale, my 192k line runs at about 270k (+- 33KB/s), thanks telkom
 
I'm on a 192 line too and according to router connected at 320 but according to line tests connected at between 300 - 290, so getting about a hundred kb's extra:D Odd thing is tho that according to my router my upspeed is 192, when it's supposed to be 64 i.e. my upspeed is three times faster then it should be, higher then the upspeed you're supposed to get on a 384 line.. more like the upspeed one should get on a 512 line:eek:
