We just bought our first home and I got my wife convinced to get ADSL. Now I can drop my Virgin GPRS :D

My question is what Wireless Router/Modem would you guys recommend. The telephone point is in the living room, so my wife doesn't want some ugly router mounted on the wall. There is a network cable running from right next to the telephone point to the office upstairs. I want to mount the Wireless Router/Modem on the wall right next to the telephone point, and then use a normal router upstairs with the cable to connect all my PCs and printers.

The wireless is for my wife to download emails and surf the web in the lounge with her laptop, while I'll be using the wired connection upstairs for my gaming/surfing. The Netgear DG834G doesn’t look that bad or does the Billion 7300G. I have read good reviews about the Linksys WRT54GL router, but it is not one of the best looking routers around. Looks are important, but I don’t want to get a good-looking router that isn’t stable. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Linksys, linksys, linksys!
They carry the cisco logo and can be customized to the nth degree and hacked if you are that way inclined... awesome machines... see here:

Thanx. I'm leaning towards the WRT54GL, but the WAG200G would look much better mounted agains the living room wall that the WRT54GL.

Does anybody have experience with the WAG200G? On paper it doesn't look bad, but on paper even Telkom doesn't look "that" bad :D Also, is there an wall mountable enclosure that can be used with the WRT54GL. My wife will not like the black and blue to mess with her color scheme in the living room.

You may need to DIY on the enclosure or get someone to do it for you... I would have the dual antenna option myself (you can have a directional antenna and an omni if you want to extend later).

Do I still need a ADSL modem with the WRT54GL

Hi

I'm new to this forum. I'm also looking for a ADSL modem/router combo and Google gave me this page. My questions now is: Do I need a separate ADSL modem to use with the WRT54GL? I can't seem to get a straight answer out of the reviews online. It looks like the WAG200G has a ADSL modem built in, but is it also a router then?

Thanks in advance for your help.

As far as I know the WRT54GL is a router only, so you would still need to have a ADSL modem connected to your telephone line, and the a cable from the modem to the WRT54GL. I could be wrong, maybe groundnut could help shed some light.
The WAG200G is a all-in-one deal: router/modem/firewall/wifi. You connect it directly to your telkom line and your network cables to the ports on the WAG200G.
