Hi Guys,

Being at my wits ends with telkoms call center and technicians who always seem to stuff everything up I have this question.

I called the Telkom call center as the Voice side of my ADSL line is not working, but the data is (last week it was the other way around). I was told that a car had hit one of their boxes and the cable was damaged. When I said that I had sync on my modem and it was running fine I was told that the Voice side of the line required a pair of wires while the data side only needed one wire to run.

Now that seems really strange to me. Is there anyone out there who can tell me if they are talking rubbish or the truth?

Sounds like a load of bollocks to me.

Your 'line' has one copper pair (2 wires) all the way from your house to the exchange which carries both your voice & data.
At the exchange the one pair is split into two pairs, one pair goes to the DSLAM and another pair goes to the EWSD/E10 exchange.

You cannot work on a single wire... Maybe there is a misunderstanding somewhere.
