Hey guys

I just wanted to know if the ADSL192 line is good enough for online gaming on local servers, im not exactly sure but i played on a 512k ADSL connection the other weekend and got pings around 50 on UT 2004. That is pretty good but i guess you cant expect to get the same with a line 3 times slower than a 512K line?? Does any of you have a 192K line and is there anyone that actually plays online with decent pings?

Thanks

speed has nothing to do with pings (afaik), especially DSL.

Pings should be the same.

On adsl ut2004 defaults to a netspeed of 10000 whick is also the max the servers allows(default). Which roughly translate to 10 KBs usage max so on 192/8 gives u 24 so even with overheads u would be able to play ut2004.

I think that 2 people should be able to play on a 192 line.

latency is what counts i think not speed obviously if you got dial up you have problems :)

razor you still struggling with your pings?

Yep... Id love to know from others from sentech if the same.

When one has to use DIAL-UP instead to play games online when theres a readily available sentech service, well then theres a BIG problem. Im sick of sentech and their throttling ****

Thanks guys, from what i gathered, my only question is how in the world can i get pings of 988 on my line??

yeah, if speed doesnt matter on ping, how is it possible for me to get 988 ping on UT2004??? I mean, if i download something the speed is round 25KB\s. Well, most of the time..........

As killa said, is it on a local server or international?

If its local, then theres seriously something wrong there! Is it wireless perhaps? Maybe it has bad signal..

if your going to download and play games, you will get high ping.. large packets completely choke the line without proper qos and even then you can get some choke

Yes it is local servers. Thats the thing that makes it so strange, i never download while i make my hopeluss attempts to play UT online, the connection isnt wireless either. Ive noticed as soon as i enter the game the ping is +- 320 then the moment i start the match, its not even 10 seconds then the ping is sitting at 988 and it doesnt move, no matter what i do. The other question is if i pay R650(including isp) per month for the 192K ADSL line, is it really worth it to put in that line, i meant i can pay R100 more and get the 384K line, any comments??

U running XP and have QoS and the firewall on? Have you tweaked the net settings in the UT console?

Yeah i run XP and my QoS packet scheduler is on and so is my firewall. mmm, tweaking the console huh?? Do u mind telling me what i can do??
