Hi guys,

Is there any relation between Telkom deploying ADSL2+ and deployment of 10Mbps enabled exchanges.
We recently got put on an ADSL2+ DSLAM and I was wondering if this could indicate an imminent exchange upgrade in the pipeline.

However the odds seem unlikely that this could be the case in the area in which we reside in.
Does anybody have any insight into if this upgrade could be related to 10Mbps access?

Code:
Mode: ADSL2+
Type: Fast
Line Coding: Trellis On

SNR Margin (dB): 15.6 26.3
Attenuation (dB): 31.5 12.6
Output Power (dBm): 0.0 12.8
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 18952 1288
Rate (Kbps): 4096 511

Just call Telkom and tell "My exchange has recently been upgraded (to ADSL2+), please put me on 6Meg."

If you lucky you'll get someone that will change you over.

yeh - call 10210 and ask them to put you on a 10mb profile. thats what I did and it works great

ADSL2+ is one of the requirements to get more than 4Mbit ADSL.
Metro Ethernet backhaul is the other requirement Telkom will have before they allow more than 4Mbit/sec connections on a DSLAM.

Best you can do is, call Telkom if your line is with them, or if you are with Afrihost or Web Africa you can do this in the client area yourself.

Okay so I've tried my luck with Telkom, but they are unable to bump up our sync profile as the exchange won't support it.

Thanks for all the replies, I suppose the answer to the thread is, ADSL2+ is a requirement but not the only requirement, all we can hope for is that there are plans to connect more exchanges to the Metro Ethernet backhaul in the not to distant future.

Hi There,
Quite right ADSL2+ is needed to go beyond the 4Mb limit. Upgrading the exchanges though is a complex process and over time the connectivity is going to improve.
I would suggest that you periodically call them and try again for the higher bandwidth.

Regards

Tim

I've had 6MB on ADSL dgmt though.

ADSL2+ is an indication that you are on an IMAX DSLAM which are normally 10 meg capable , how ever if they make policy for an exchange and limit it to 4 meg not much can be done unless you speak to the specialist for the area .

no its not... you can sync faster speeds on ADSL/GMT, but then you need exceptional line quality
