This actualy is to Gru and MRG. You gays must wake up . If not for Telkom, you would still be surfing the net at what........ 56k. You talking about technology. Have you actualy seen adsl2+, or just hear or read about it. Have you heard about iptv??? adsl 2+ service. Maybe you should stop complaining and get all this technologie up and going.
Hi wessie,
My above statement I made was referring to just the amount Telkom SA has charged us for bandwidth in the local broadband arena. It wasn't meant as a complaint more of a joke. Irony of sorts. Just viewing what is available in a truly regulated or free market elsewhere globally.
If Telkom was not around there would surly be another player because of legislation that would be totally different and government not having to protect its own interests blah blah blah, we have heard all the Telkom stories before. This is however not important.
ADSL2+ is very similar in nature to ADSL in terms of actual technology, two normal ADSL lines and DSLAM ports connected together to create more throughput, that is in sense the most basic way a person can explain it.
The most complicated part of implementation would be the back haul infrastructure which Telkom constantly says has sufficient capacity and has no problems coping with current and future demands, however we know they need to seriously address their network, and in their slightest defense, have been spending a decent amount of cash upgrading their exchanges to ADSL2+ (not mentioning the building of their WiFi network), and creating more resources on their local network available to its customers.
I understand exactly how everything works and have seen an ADSL2+ connection operate. My views above as mentioned already was not of an attacking nature, very light hearted actually. However I do feel Telkom should have put itself in a better position regarding the provisioning of ADSL2+ for their subscribers.
Either way ADSL2+ or equivalent technology will make its way into consumer homes from Telkom due to the ever looming competition especially from Vodacom in the coming 12 months.
