So I'm looking to get a suitable power supply for a new gaming PC I am putting together :). Problem is I am not sure what power supply I will need and if the motherboard will be compatible with a sandy bridge CPU (Intel has a habbit of requiring you to upgrade your motherboard each time a new CPU comes out lol)?

The specs are as follows:

Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 - Socket 1155 Motherboard

Club 3D Radeon HD 6950 - 2048MB 256bit GDDR5 - PCI-E

Intel Boxed Core i5 2500K Processor - 3.30GHz Quad Core Socket 1155 - CPU

Kingston - KVR1333D3N9/4G - ValueRam DRR3 1333Mhz - 4GB

SilverStone Raven Series 02 Black Evolution Steel body

Total Cost = R8200 on the dot (no power supply). It is important to note that the case seems to come with 4 x 120mm fans already (I think this will be important in getting the correct power supply?) I will be keeping my current hard drives / monitor / keyboard / mouse. Some advice will be much appreciated thanks :D.

The motherboard is fine the 2nd generation core i processors use the socket 1155, as to the power supply I will leave it to other people to advise but I would sggest getiing a decent 500-600 watt PSU for extra fans, hard drives, disk drives exct.

Through that said you can get most of those parts for cheaper from other online vendors like

CPU 2500k R2,203.38 Vs R 2,399

Graphics Card R3,085.22 Vs R 3,304

Ram R214.47 Vs R 234

Too lazy to look up the other parts but I imagine it will be similiar

The motherboard is fine

No its not, not for a 2500K. On that mobo you wont be able to overclock the chip at all, you need to look at a P67 or Z68 board. So either pick a new mobo, or drop the CPU to a i5 2400/2500 (non k)

Also if you going with such a nice case that has a window, please get a nice CPU cooler instead of that crappy intel one :) Not just for looks but cooling benefits as well..

But I'd also get a better motherboard.. Like archer said look for the P67 or Z68 chipset boards.. your board is currently a H61.

+1, my research has come to the same conclusion, as I understand it the H67 has on-board graphics capability (it uses the cpu) the P67 is discreet but can be over-clocked using the new UEFI, which is a B.I.O.S replacement. Look here this guy could sell ice to Eskimos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlA2gR8cfVQ

so a "K" processor will be a waste on a H67 mobo. As for the power supply I agree with PostmanPot, Antec HCG 520W minimum. http://www.prophecy.co.za/antec-620w-80plus-bronze-certified-gaming-power-supply-p-83861.html Ok, I'm looking at the 620W but a extra 100W will not hurt the system it also gives 575W on the 12 Volt rail constantly at 88% efficiency I believe.

Agree with all.

Antec HCG are awesome, the 400, 520 and 620 are Seasonic OEMs and blow Corsair CX (and other lesser entry quality PSUs) out the water. 520 will be enough for any single card setup. I agree the extra ±100watts can't hurt, PSU should run cooler with fan at a lower level.
