Hi guys,

I'm quite a noob as far as adsl is concerned, so please bear with me :)

Up until now I've had a pretty satisfactory experience with my connection. I'm on a 1mb Telkom line and 1mb uncapped package with Mweb.

The past day of two my line stats have deteriorated drastically to more or less half than what I had previously. Not sure where the problem lies. See my router settings and speed and ping tests as on today, below. As far as I can tell, the ping (latency?) is quite good. Any advice will be appreciated.

Browsing is still fine. Pages open up fairly quickly and youtube videos play with almost no buffering at all. The SNR and attenuation seems way different from what they are supposed to be, if I understand the concept correctly from what I've read on other posts. Also, previously the attainable rate indicated on the router was 4mb/s. Suddenly it's around 700kbs.

Any comments/suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Your SNR margins are messed up quite badly, 4.9db(49) SNR margin means there is noise on the line and it is affecting the performance of the line.

SNR:

* 6bB. or below = Bad and will experience no line synchronisation and frequent disconnections
* 7dB-10dB. = Fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions.
* 11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no disconnection problems
* 20dB-28dB. = Excellent
* 29dB. or above = Outstanding

All you can do it to ask Telkom to check your line and maybe they will put you on another port at the exchange.

Well, well, stranger things have happened. Suddenly everything changed back to 'normal" last night. Not sure how or why. Maximum attainable rate now reading 4096 again. SNR also much better. Thanks. Holding thumbs. ;)
