Advice creating redundant Win 2012 servers?

Good day,

Does anyone have any advice to create a redundant Windows Server 2012 configuration?

Will be used for web hosting (IIS) and MS SQL in a datacentre.

While I know I'm way out of my depth on this one, I suspect you're going to get told/should look at virtualisation, a la Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 as a bare-metal hypervisor to build from.

Does it have to be highly available or will an offline replica work?

For HA you will need to build a failover cluster, for an offline replica you can use Hyper-V 2012 replicas.


If you do go the failover cluster route, research it a lot, SQL failover clusters can be a bastid if setup incorrectly.

We will need High Availability as the server(s) will be hosting client websites. Will research more.
