Advice for first car (student)

One thing to avoid with any car are the agents. There are dozens of places you can get service parts and components apart from the agents. An example is a replacement door mirror for a Golf. Barons want R1180,00 and Exclusive Auto Spares in Grassy Park R435,00. Fitting is identical

Seeing a 2006 Hyundai Getz 1.6 HS facelift for sale in my area, R47 000 with just over 90 000km on the clock, definitely one I'm considering.

FSH? Also let the AA do that point check on it. If the car is clean it's not bad at all considering its age/mileage.

I am getting in a car in two weeks time that I think you may wish to consider

1993 Opel Monza 160i, 140k on the clock
In immaculate condition, although this word is often misused, I can assure you its not the case with this car.

I am buying it simply to resell but that in no way diminishes the quality of the car, I welcome all reasonable tests to be carried out on the car. The owner wants to sell everything so I have had to purchase this car as well.

I will post it in the classifieds once I've taken possession.

Tazz 160 Sport. Should get it for about 50k. Car is a dream. Drives well, can take a beating and never breaks. If it does, any mechanic can fix it and it's cheap.

That looks reasonable for a student. What does the guy want for it?

Opel Monza's are ugly as sin, but pretty decent cars overall. That one seems to be in great condition as well, from the exterior at least.

+1 to this. Had to replace my Corsa's mirror in 2010 and Opel had the cheek to ask me R1800 for it. I told them where they could shove their mirror and then picked up a R350 mirror elsewhere. Can't remember the exact place, but it was the same quality and works just as well as the stock mirror.

I'll second this recommendation. They're really reliable vehicles. My dad got one as a company car shortly after they started their company +- 15 years ago and that little thing is still going. It's now being used at our Saldanha branch with 280k on the clock and still running perfectly.
