Hello people

A friend came to me asking to help him buying his new pc, budget is 15k.

He wants:
2600k
GTX580
SSD
2TB HDD

The rest of the stuff he wants me to choose, PC will be used for his architectural software and gaming.
He already has monitor, keyboard and mouse so only needs the pc itself.

Thanks

Random Asus Z68 mobo - R2k
2600k - R3300 check with your friend how multi CPU friendly his programs are. He could save R1k by dropping to a 2500k. During gaming the two chips are basically identical
SSD - size? R2300 for 120GB, R4500 for 240GB. You'll want to look at the OCZ Vertex 3 range, though they have launched a new series (forget the name) that is 20% cheaper yet the same performance. No idea on availability in SA though
GTX580 - R5.5 - 6k. Only useful if res is HD or higher. Could also drop to a GTX570 or HD6970: 15% less performance, but roughly 40% lower price
HDD will be less than 1k

Total around R14.5k, with the small SSD + 2600k

Native res would be 1920x1080, and yes he also needs the OS so i'm going to recommend he drops to a 6970 and then everything will balance out nicely.

Is he using any CAD software that makes use of gpu acceleration?

Sorry for asking but whats up with these big 750w Coolermaster psus everyone keep on linking?
A 6950only need a 500w psu thats everything included.
Altough hes got a big budget its still not good to waste money on a overkill psu.
A Antec 520w psu will do fine. More than enough for your needs

The Corsair TX750 is to he can expand later on, no point in getting anything lower then having to upgrade the PSU later. The Antec 520w is already cutting it if he uses a 6950. A 750w PSU is hardly overkill for the setup above.

No its not. Do you know a graphics card could theoretically have a power consumption of up to 300 Watts? Thats max.
75W just from the PCI-E slot and 200 from the connecters

6950 on load. that psu will run its perfect efficiency because its carrying a load of 40 to 60 percent and got room too spare. The 520 is a seasonic unit it can do much more
