Hi guys

I need to move to another ISP. I'm currently with Openweb (feel free to flame me later) but I can't handle the poor network performance any longer.

I was with Mweb previously but moved after they started their throttling of uncapped accounts BS.

So the question is: Afrihost or Axxess? Or is there anyone else I should look at?

I need a 10mb uncapped account, with priority on browsing, streaming and online gaming all day 'round, and the occasional download during nighttime.

Thanks!

You're not gonna get a decent uncapped account for that money.

Budget around R500 (not sure if its possible to get a decent account for this price?); Usage around 150GB p/m.

R500 for data and line or only data?

The best currently seems to be CrystalWeb, therefore the premium.

Afrihost has a roller-coaster ride, I am paying R667 for 10Mbps 150GB capped, which is one of the cheapest you can find and therefore the quality is not always the best. Excellent when it works, other times terrible.
(I am in Cape Town, seems I keep missing a lot of the issues everyone has, only been affected once or twice since I signed up)

You could also try Webafria Business capped, not sure on its costs though, they offer extra data after midnight.

Data only.

I'm looking at CrystalWeb as well, just dont know them too well and haven't spoken to too many people that has dealt with them in the past.

I was looking at either Afrihost or Axxess, but now you're making me think twice about AH.

Just reading through this forum, Crystal Web has by far the best reputation in both network and support.
Their 120GB data is anytime with 480GB after midnight for R395.

CrystalWeb's just a tad outside my budget.

Now the question is: Web Africa Home Uncapped 10mb or Axxess Uncapped 10mb??

There is no such capping of uncapped accounts. I think you mean throttling if you don't buy a package that suits your GB needs.

Far better system than shaping.

Any thoughts on Web Africa Home Uncapped?

A 10mb account would cost me R499 pm.
Only realized afterwards that that was with line included.

So what is your budget for line and data combined? If it is R500 for both, you will get a terrible experience. You should put around R425 on the side for the line in case you are not bundling. If you have a capped account, or the bundle is not that cheap, you can try the 20Mbps line from Vox for R410 (Scroll down).

EDIT:
The 10Mbps Axxess will cost you: R799 p/m bundled.
The line from Telkom will cost you R425 or you can try going with Vox which is R410. Then addon the CrystalWeb capped account of R325 which will make the total R750 or R735 per month if you use Vox.

I do not understand what you mean by out of your budget.

EDIT2: Apologies, it is R395 and not R325. (Misread.)
The end cost will be R820 or R805 a month for Crystalweb, depending on who your line provider is. Note that Crystal Web goes according to line speed, if you take the Vox deal you can use 20Mbps instead of 10Mbps or however high your line can manage to sync stably.

EDIT3: You also wanted to decide on the Webafrica one, the cost of it is R899 a month.

Web Africa Home Uncapped 10mb (data only) is priced at R499 pm.

My line cost (Telkom account) is already accounted for, so what I'm budgeting now will be purely data costs.

I reckon either WA or Axxess can't both be worse than Openweb right now, so it's a toss up to choose one. Only downside is that I'll be paying double the ISP costs for the next 2 months, until I can get OW cancelled.

Small price to pay, I say :)

I had a look at the Vox VDSL options as well but I don't think my Telkom exchange supports VDSL at present. Which sucks, but anyway.

Doesn't matter, you are paying for 20Mbps which can also be used on ADSL. Afrihost at one point made a billing error where the 20Mbps option was cheaper than the 10Mbps option. I took it and had a 14Mbps line speed stably. The new Telkom system ruined it for me though, kept trying to resync.

EDIT: You can also request it to sync lower but still pay for the 20Mbps option (So 10Mbps if that is the highest sync you can achieve).
