Hi

Well currently driving a golf 4 tdi but selling it as parts are just insanely expensive.

So budget is 110k ..

Petrol vehicle wanted.
aiming for family car
good fuel consumption(obvious)
should be something with power as our 2nd car is a opel utility 1.8l

So what would you guys say is a good buy?

Get a Ford Ikon 1.6... Elec windows, big boot, etc. Eagle Ford has them on a permanent special. Maybe you can get a demo for 110k.

Chevrolet Sonic
Other alternatives would be Ford Ikon or Nissan Tida.

Honda Accord (Or Civic if you'd like slightly newer/smaller).

Stop messing around with ****boxes and get a proper car.

See

My wife had an S40 2.0 before she upgraded to the D5.

Fantastic car, light on fuel, a pleasure to drive. Also, the 2.0i engine doesn't have a timing belt, but rather a chain, so no expensive timing belt service to worry about. I used an independent Volvo workshop and the most expensive service was R1600. We bought the car at 68k km and sold it to a friend, car currently has 125k km on the clock and hasn't skipped a beat. I have a client with the exact same car in excess of 300k km on the clock. Only thing giving him hassles was a dodgy sensor on the climate control.

You cannot buy more car for the money even if you tried.

Why would you possibly suggest a tarted up Ford Mondeo?
Just like an Audi A4 is just a tarted up Passat and A3 is a tarted up Golf.

@OP: A powerful family car and fuel efficient are mutually exclusive, unless you increase your budget by around R30 000 for something like a Jetta TSI.

According to OP, he wants something affordable to maintain, I notice how everyone suggests him a Volvo, Accord, Jaguar, he wants to sell his car as parts are just insanely expensive, why mention something more expensive to maintain than his current car?

You could get a older Civic but with very high mileage, but reliable. Chevrolet Sonic or other alternatives would be Ford Ikon or Nissan Tida seems to fit your requirements and your budget and cheaper to maintain. If you want a better car with less mileage you would need to increase your budget. Go to Kingsley Reports for car maintenance parts to get an idea of costs from what year you looking for.

You should be able to get a reasonably new Mitsubishi Lancer for that price. 2.0L engine, Lots of space inside, massive boot and drives really nice. Only thing it doesn't have is cruise control. Parts are not that expensive, and you will should get the last few services of the service plan as well (with low mileage). Bought my 2011 model with 53000 km's last year for R120k.

Nissan tiida will be expensive when it comes to parts...

More expensive than a Accord?
How do you know? According to Kingsley Reports Nissan Tida is cheapest. Where do you get your source from?

Don't know about the Accord.

First hand experience with Nissan parts... A single hubcap cost me over R1k
