Advice needed from cyclists

If you plan to do longer rides and endurance events I can highly recommend going for a 29er.

I think you missed the part where he already bought a 27.5er. :P That should also work well on longer rides.

Did see that, and I did not mention 27.5 because I really don't see the point of them. difference between 26 and 29 is just small enough.

I'm looking to get a bicycle to get to work and back. It's a 4km ride in total every day. Nothing too pricey but something reliable.

Budget is around 2-3k

Can any of you cyclists please suggest something for me. I have no idea about bicycles.

I commute by bicycle daily. 12KM in the morning though rush hour traffic on all tar roads. After work I do 23km by including some mountain bike trails.

For your money would recommend a basic 26er MTB with disc brakes, like this : http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-b...nn-26-mountain-bike/1001720425400910024043709 or http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-b...aturn-mountain-bike/1001720375890910993641209

As soon as you can have it converted to tubeless so you do not have those nasty punctures to deal with on your way to work.

Thank-you Roux I will contact these guys tomorrow.

You're welcome. Those were just suggestion, look around Gumtree and BikeHub to see what else there is.

Two things to keep in mind :
1) Buy a proper bike, not a Game/Makro special. Event entry level bikes from Merida/Scott/Giant/Trek/GT/Schwinn/Momsen/Titan/silverback will have a better build and better components than your mass mart bikes. They may use bottom spec Shimano components but at least they are Shimano (or SRAM) and will be reliable

2) Just like clothes bikes come in different sizes. I am about 190cm and ride a XL or L. My wife on the other hand rides a XS bike. I can ride her XS bike but it is like riding a BMX and I will not be able to go as far as I do on XL. Make sure the bike you buy is the right size for your build.
