Advice needed - looking for a gaming laptop

I've had my GE72 (970m) for over a year now and as far as gaming goes, it's a great machine. The SSD is fast and the 1TB hard drive is great for backing up all the crap I take along with me on my ventures into remote places.

Now for the issues (there are always issues).

The trackpad is crap. I will boot up and can work all day with no issues but as soon as I pick up the laptop whilst it still is on, the trackpad goes haywire. I cannot move the pointer as it will jump around or zoom the screen in. The only way to resolve this is to reboot the machine.

Secondly, some keys have had their black 'paint' peel off (Note which ones in the attached picture :D).

Lastly, the keyboard feels a little 'plasticky' to me.

Other than that, I have played a host of games using medium to high settings (GTA5, Enhanced editions of The Witcher, Skyrim, Fallout 4, WoW and a bunch of others) and the only game that gave me an issue was Archeage (which I think is just poorly optimised).

All in all I'm quite happy with the machine (except for the issues). I've lugged this laptop to various destinations outside of SA with no issues despite it's size.

I had the GS72 for a while. Awesome specs, horrible build quality. Keys started losing paint just after 3 months and the body was prone to scratching easily.

It's a joke considering how much you pay.

I agree but when I purchased the laptop, spec wise I could not find anything cheaper. I looked at all brands from ASUS, Gigabyte, Lenovo, Dell (Incl. Alienware) etc. and the MSI was better specced for the price.

No scratches on the bodywork thus far.

I have a laptop, but it crashed, so I need a new one, with my normal stuff on and one that I can play games on :)
 
Is MSI in general a good make? I currently have an Acer, but it packed up after 5 years... the screen goes on and it says I need to run a repair tool (start up window) and when I click on that nothing happens. It does not want to start in normal windows, so not sure what is up.

I like the MSI laptop, and wanted to get it from Evetech. So now I am a bit concerned as well :(

A fresh windows install could potentially solve that problem, might be the hard drive but that's cheap to replace.

Personally I won't go with MSI, built quality is rubbish just after a year. Got mine from Evetech for R25 000 (GE70). Regret I ever bought it. I will rather spend more and go with an ASUS. I don't mind using Evetech but you can also check with Wootware, Rebeltech, Computers Only etc.

Also realise:
Gaming Laptops Run Hot! If the fan sits on the left, your hands might get hot using the WASD keys. If the Fan sits on the right, it might burn your right hand (mouse). Next time I'll get one where all the air goes to the back. Try to get something with an SSD, makes a HUGE difference even on the cheaper laptops. Check the reviews (www.notebookcheck.net, amazon) and user reviews before you buy.

Those are just my 2 cents. =)

Had the same story with Evetech. The problem is the supplier. The other companies are just the middle man. It went faster when I asked to deal directly with the supplier. Regarding MSI, I have to agree, DON'T buy it.
 
If you're actually still looking for a gaming laptop, I have a brand new (still sealed in box) Lenovo Legion Y520 I want to get rid of. Standard retail on these are also around R14k, but selling this one for R12 806.76.

Specs are as follows:
7th gen Intel i5-7300HQ
16gb RAM
1tb HDD
15.6" FHD (1920x1080) anti-glare IPS monitor
4gb GeForce 1050 Ti Dedicated Graphics Card
Card Reader, HD Webcam - all of those typical goodies
Windows 10 64-bit.
