I'm looking to capture high-quality video footage indoors. Which would be better?

Or

I'll be using studio lighting and a tripod with the camera, as well as an exterior microphone.

If you're wanting high quality video why are you settling for HD instead of 4k?

Personally, if you want to record video, then get the video recorder. A still camera CAN take video, I wouldn't personally reccommend it, however I know lots of people that used the 7D for video and sang it's praises. Rather get a tool fit for purpose. If you intend to take photos and the ability to record occasionally is what you need, then yeah, 77D would be great (you can throw it this way if you done and don't want it anymore :))

For a few thousand more you can get the Canon Legria HF G50 UHD or the Panasonic HC-VX1 4K HD.
Do you have another supplier for the Canon Legria HF G50 UHD? It's more than double the price on Takealot. The
Panasonic HC-VX1 4K HD seems more reasonable. Not sure if I need the video to be that good though.

So I gather. I just wanted to know which one would produce the best footage since they're similarly priced.

A lot depends on what you're going to be shooting.

Wow, that's a huge difference in price! My subjects will be people in a well-lit room.

I wouldn't bother with a Canon DLSR for video, and a handicam is very one dimensional. My recommendation:

But you'd also need a lens. Very good, but kit lens:

Over your budget though... Also great for photography though...

Just get directly in touch with some of the big porn makers in the world. They should be able to tell you what they use and you should be sorted....rather get it from the horse's mouth, I would think.

Camera price is good, too bad about the lens though.

I would almost always take a DSLR/Mirrorless camera over a camcorder, except where portability or massive zoom range on a very tight budget is an issue.
The main reason is sensor size. With a larger sensor, you get better low light performance, and a smaller depth of field, which gives you more options with regards to how you want your footage to look.

I also saw on one youtube video, that (some?) camcorders need powered mics, where DLSRs dont? Not sure how applicable or true it is.
